Cliff Jones of ZBD wins SID Alfred Woodhead Best Paper Award
25 June 2008

Dr Cliff Jones, chief technology officer and co-founder of ZBD Displays, received the Alfred Woodhead Best Paper Award from the UK & Ireland Chapter of the Society for Information Display (SID) at its technical meeting held on 17 April 2008. Topic of the meeting, one of a regular series of peer-group forums run by SID, was ‘Display Drivers and Interfacing Techniques’. The award winner is decided by the audience at the event.

Dr Jones's presentation, entitled ‘Addressing zenithal bistable displays’, explained the physics behind the latching mechanism of zenithal bistable displays and how this is used to provide the appropriate signals into the display. The addressing schemes, patented by ZBD which also owns the other intellectual property rights of zenithal bistable displays, are designed to deliver excellent performance characteristics using low cost, commercially available drivers.

The Society for Information Display is the leading international professional society exclusively devoted to the advancement of electronic-display technology, manufacturing, and applications. Its international headquarters are located in San Jose, California, with active regional chapters across the Americas, Europe and Asia.

"Tesco are pleased to be working again with ZBD for our trial of Electronic Shelf Edge Labels (ESELs). The technology is great for helping to improve our customers' shopping experience and making our store staff’s jobs simpler. From our previous in-store experience we believe ZBD’s ESEL displays can meet these criteria."
